Our Challenge: In the early months of the pandemic, we joined Circle K's innovation team to help shape early concept and flow for EasyWay, their grab-and-go direction built around automatic item tracking and tap-to-pay checkout.
Background – A touchless checkout for 2020
In 2020, Circle K wanted a way for customers to shop without touching a keypad, a card reader, or another person at checkout. EasyWay tracked what customers picked up automatically as they shopped, then let them tap or scan their phone at an in-store EasyWay station on the way out to pay, with a receipt landing in the app instead of in their hand.
Process – Designing for trust
We contributed screen direction, motion concepting, and copy, working through the flow screen by screen alongside Circle K's team. Our role was to communicate, in text and visuals, that customers could trust the process: skip touching anything, get what they needed, and get back on the road quickly.
Solution – A system that explains itself, screen by screen

An onboarding sequence (It's a Snap → Grab → Tap → …and Go) walked first-time shoppers through the flow before they needed it. A short EasyWay-station sequence (Ready to scan → Hi there! → Processing → Success) narrated each step of the transaction, closing with a clear confirmation.
EasyWay was tested in Circle K stores, including a 2021 pilot in Tempe and Tucson, Arizona, where the automatic-tracking piece ran on overhead cameras from Standard AI ("Circle K Introduces Fully Frictionless Checkout Experience in Arizona to Enhance Ease and Convenience for Customers," Alimentation Couche-Tard, October 12, 2021). We stayed attached to the project through part of that testing.
